The City of Monroe, GA is unique in the sense that while embracing the “new”, the city as a whole has paid due respect to the “old”. Without mentioning the historic, retro-fitted homes and businesses of downtown Monroe, we simply could not encompass what downtown Monroe, Ga has to offer. And don’t get me started on the antique malls…… (antique capital of Georgia, google it.)
The Shops:
Shopping as a whole in Downtown Monroe is at a historical peak. Whether it be antiques for the home, books for the kiddos, an outfit for a night on the town, or even locally sourced meats… Monroe has a shop for that. A day of browsing with the Mrs. typically includes stopping by: Southern Roots, Peachy Keen, Ephiphany, The Monroe Merchantile & last, but certainly not least… Vintage Revival Antiques. No little ones yet for us, but if the kiddos are with you, make sure to stop by The Story Shop for a great experience.
Coffee:
I know I know, but first… Coffee. Monroe, GA is blessed with great coffee. Two of our favorite spots are Coffee Camper Co. & Bold Springs Coffee. If you are looking for a laid back experience in a beautiful setting… Bold Springs Coffee is a great fit for you. I typically go here when I need to make phone calls / work with intent. If in-house roasted coffee in a vibrant setting is more your speed, check out Coffee Camper Co. If you’re lucky, you’ll find the owner Crystal behind the counter serving up some of the best coffee that Monroe, GA has to offer.
Restaurants:
Monroe has the eats. The best eats are tasty, served hot, and include a great atmosphere. Great settings are a plus, but not if the food is lackluster. If you are in Monroe, schedule some time to try out some of the best that Monroe has to offer. Some must-visits in Downtown Monroe are The Roe (fine dining), Potluck Cafe (breakfast), Taco’s & Beer (mexican), Broad Street Tavern (sports bar / fine dining) & When Pigs Fly BBQ.
Historic Homes & Architecture:
You know what beats eating breakfast in a fast-food chain lobby? Eating breakfast in a really cool building. Monroe has it’s fair share of buildings that are in fact really cool. In addition to the historic courthouse and 100’s of historic homes, Monroe has many buildings that have been retrofit for commercial use. Where old hardware stores, cotton mills, general stores (our office location), and warehouses once conducted business… new businesses have renovated the shell and made new businesses. If you too are an architecture nerd, places like the Mcdaniel Tichenor house, The Cowork, Walton Street, Vintage Revival, Downtown, and Boulevard St. are certainly worth a visit.
